Chapter 8: The pickers' city


ARCADIA - On a busy Saturday night, when migrant workers celebrate the end of a six-day work week, Arcadia could be mistaken for a farm town in Mexico. Pork sizzles on a roadside grill. Shouts in Spanish rise above Tejano music on the radio. Young men parade down the sidewalk in their best jeans and Western shirts.
